VineLife Community Covenant
Having come by the grace of God to receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, and having been led by the Holy Spirit to become a part of this Community of Faith, I do now before God and in the presence of this body, most joyfully and solemnly enter into Covenant Relationship with the part of the Body of Christ known as The (insert name, e.g. Inverness) VineLife Community.
I. WE COVENANT TO LIVE IN COMMUNITY WITH GOD:
- By acknowledging the importance that our Triune God places on community and making ourselves available to Him as he seeks us out in order to enjoy our fellowship.
- By knowing that we are not our own, and that we have been purchased with a price by Jesus.
- By giving up our supposed independent “rights” and living in relationship with Him.
- By acknowledging we are loved by Him and by trusting in the fruit of this love relationship with Him.
- By having regular times of study and meditation with Him and, by the renewing of our minds and lives, becoming transformed into the very image of Jesus.
- By learning and applying transforming passages of His written word that show us His ways so that we may know Him fully.
- By not living in the pain of our past but rather daily living in the power of His presence.
II. WE COVENANT TO LIVE IN COMMUNITY WITH ONE ANOTHER:
- By seeking to live out in community with one another the mutual love, care, respect, and servanthood that we see in the God Head.
- By understanding that we are in a “circle” of relationship with one another, not a hierarchy with a chain of command.
- By acknowledging that we were created to be loved and by experiencing “body” life by loving one another.
- By refusing the temptation of institutional programs which usually result in going too fast and being to busy to love each other.
- By intentionally and freely speaking into each other’s lives for our mutual good in all areas of our personal lives and in our faith community.
- By believing and speaking the best of each other and not entertaining rumors, gossip, demeaning talk, or slander.
- By resolving any conflicts in our faith community when we experience conflict or uncover disorder in our relationships,
- By bringing any misunderstandings or bad reports to the light of each other’s awareness so that they can be dealt with in a godly manner.
- By believing that the mind and wisdom of Christ is often revealed through our faith community when it gathers and by submitting to one another in love.
- By participating in male and female safe groups in addition to our corporate meeting, for the purpose of being truly transparent and confessing our sins to one another,
- By interceding for each other, our community, and our world through prayer together.
- By being catalytic in introducing people who are not yet in a faith community to God through our lives, words and actions.
As God is my witness I commit myself to live in community with God and with my fellow believers, confessing my total dependence on the Holy Spirit for my fulfillment of this commitment.
